I’m Marie Alston, founder and owner of Serenity Brows N Beauty and a Certified Microshading Ombré Brows Artist and Instructor with over seven years of professional experience in the beauty industry.
I’m proud to be certified through leading permanent makeup academies, with advanced training in color theory, machine technique, and skin analysis. As a licensed and Certified, I bring not only technical expertise but also a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed in today’s competitive beauty market.
My journey began with a love for enhancing natural beauty, and it has grown into a calling to teach, inspire, and empower others to build thriving careers of their own.

Microshading is a semi-permanent brow technique that creates a soft, powdered effect using a stippling method. It’s ideal for clients with sensitive skin or oily skin types.
Our Microshading course is a 2-day intensive training, with both theory and hands-on practice.
You must be at least 18 years old. No prior esthetics or cosmetology license is required in Virginia, but you must complete the required permanent makeup/tattooing licensure to perform microshading professionally.
You’ll receive in-depth training on:
Sanitation, safety, and bloodborne pathogens
Skin anatomy and color theory
Brow mapping and shaping
Machine technique and needle configurations
Aftercare and healing process
Client consultations and consent forms
Licensing and state regulations
Yes. Each student receives a professional starter kit with pigments, needles, brow pencils, mapping tools, and more.
Yes. Students will complete hands-on practice on latex skin and perform a live model service under instructor supervision.
Yes. Upon successful completion, students will receive a Certificate of Completion from S&J School of Beauty.
Tuition will be shared upon inquiry or application. We offer affordable payment plans and require a deposit to reserve your seat.
Certified microshading artists can work in:
Beauty salons and brow bars
Medspas and esthetic clinics
Freelance/mobile services
Their own brow or PMU studio
You must complete a permanent cosmetic tattooer application through DPOR and meet the state’s training, health, and safety requirements. We will guide you through the process during training.
